Pangaea Regional Center

Riverine Fisheries International, LLC – A Fulton County, Kentucky-based company in the City of Hickman located on the Mississippi River (“Riverine”).  Riverine intends to harvest and manufacture certain species of Asian carp that are overtaking the Mississippi River and other U.S. waterways.  Riverine intends to use the proceeds of the Loan from Pangaea Regional Center to launch operations of a 121-person seafood preparation and packaging business and a 21-person commercial fishing business, with a primary focus on the Asian carp breed.

Bighead and silver carp were imported into the southeastern U.S. in the 1970s to remove algae and suspended matter out of catfish farm ponds and wastewater treatment ponds.  By the end of the 1970s, some state, federal and private aquaculture facilities as well as sewage lagoons had been stocked with silver carp.  It did not take long for silver carp to be detected in natural waters with reports being received as early as 1980.  Silver carp are now present throughout much of the Mississippi River basin and in other connected watersheds. The Company is prepared to commence harvesting and processing the Asian carp.
